About Newburgh and Beyond

Newburgh and Beyond is a tool for the dream conquerors to navigate the college and career process. Through Newburgh and Beyond, students can learn about available scholarships, education, and health tips to provide an easier college experience.

Newburgh and Beyond was created by two Newburgh Free Academy graduates, Azariah McLymore and Latoya Evans, who wanted to address a need in their community. McLymore and Evans noticed that many students within their city, including themselves, struggled to find available scholarships, help with college navigation, and basic college information. Through personal experiences, McLymore and  Evans have acquired knowledge to help fellow students find jobs, majors, and colleges that suit students’ needs. Through Newburgh and Beyond, our hope is to make the entire college process a little easier for the next person and pay it forward.

About Latoya Evans

As a current undergrad student, I have endured many struggles and received help when needed. I am majoring in Nursing to become a labor and delivery nurse. My passion for this career path is derived from my personal experiences. I was born three weeks premature with jaundice and a couple of other complications. The doctors that helped to bring me into this world also saved my life. To be able to do the same for other mothers would be a blessing. However, every goal includes hard work and dedication. I am studying at Suny OCCC to receive my associate’s degree. After that, I am transferring to an HBCU to study nursing and receive my degree. With all of this schooling comes a lot of finances. I am fortunate to have a roof over my head, a job, and food on the table. But I do not have all of the money to finance schooling. I have received money from financial aid and grants to help me move forward with my dreams and to turn them into reality. To show my gratitude, I am here to pay my due diligence forward. I came up with the idea of this website while talking to a family friend. I realized not many people have the same options or opportunities that I have. She was stumped on how to start, where to go, and how to pay. So I came up with the idea of creating a website that provided all of the things she struggled with plus more. With the help of my partner, Azariah McLymore, she has made my dream possible and better than I could ever imagine. I hope this website provides you with an abundance of knowledge and insight. Once you receive the information, remember to pass it on because you could be helping someone else in need.

About Azariah McLymore

Born and raised in Newburgh, New York, Azariah McLymore has dedicated her life to making effective change. McLymore is a graduate of the Newburgh P-Tech program, where she earned an applied associate’s degree in cybersecurity at the age of eighteen. In 2018, McLymore presented a TEDx talk titled “Stop letting the future hold you captive,” encouraging all that enjoying the present will lead to a fulfilling future. In December of 2019, McLymore graduated from Brooklyn College with a bachelor of arts in psychology. She is currently a law student at the illustrious North Carolina Central University School of Law. McLymore aims to combine the study of human behavior and her knowledge of the law to become an impactful criminal defense and civil rights attorney.

In 2016, McLymore created the non-profit organization, McLymore Foundation Inc., empowering people to rise above the expectations placed upon them. Through the McLymore Foundation, she has hosted countless clothing, shoe, and food drives, art and book club meetings, summer scholar sessions, yoga meetings, family dances, a community health fair, block parties, and vision board events. The McLymore Foundation’s greatest accomplishment is the creation of the McLymore Foundation and RDM Ministries Scholarship. Through this scholarship, the organizations help graduating high school seniors pursue their chosen degrees at a college, university, or trade school.

McLymore has worked as a humanities tutor for the Marist Upward Bound program, aiding students in essay writing, homework, and college and career readiness. McLymore has also worked as a site supervisor for the Boys and Girls Club Summer Youth Initiative. This program allowed her to work with Newburgh youth to create banners, a mural, and other art pieces to remain in Audrey Carey Park, located in Newburgh, New York. McLymore is a certified yoga instructor who teaches restorative and easy-flow yoga classes to help her students with physical and mental release. McLymore continues to work with community members, pursue higher education, and always pays it forward.
